I did not know Mr. Drew, however I had the privilege to be one of his nurses at Providence Hospital.  
At such a sad and heartbreaking time I had the opportunity to see true LOVE at its finest .       
Mr and Mrs Drew touched my heart with their undying love to each other right to the end   It was an honor to witness such Love and support between a husband and wife

Mike and my brother Andy were friends. We all grew up in Eight Mile together. Mike helped with the building of my brothers house in Chunchula. He was such a great guy. Always laughing and smiling. Just a pleasure to be around. Mike was upset when he found out my brother had died in an accident and he couldn't make it to his funeral because he was out of town working. I just found out about Mikes passing. Im so very sorry I couldn't be there in my brothers place to express our sincerest and deepest sympathies to his wife and children. I know this is such a hard time and my thoughts and prayers go out to you all.

I will miss you big brother! I was only 4 when you married Vicki and 5 when Danny was born. For so many years y'all were more like another set of parents and Danny an aggravating little brother instead of nephew, sister-in-law and brother. You two would take me along to the ballpark, tournaments out of town and just out to chuck-e-cheese on a random weeknight. I will never forget those days. Brittany came along 8 years later and then I was old enough to be trusted as her babysitter for you and Vicki to have a date night. Your kids grew as I grew and I started my own family. I remember how proud you were as you met each of my kids after they were born. Our relationship now was a true brother and sister who trusted and relied on each other for support. I'm so proud of each role you played in my life. We never fought like most siblings but that's because of the age difference and the fact that I was so small the only time we lived together that....I wasn't old enough to be that aggravating little sister yet. Now as you aren't suffering anymore, in the last days, you trusted your little sister with one more thing....however, it's probably the biggest thing. You asked for me to watch out for your family: your soul mate, Vicki, your kids, their soul mates and your precious grandchildren. Brother, you have my word that I will do that. We Love you, Mike!!!!

Michael Anthony Drew 

Today we'll shed some tears for sure, tears of joy as we not only remember, but honor the life of, Michael Anthony Drew known by his family and friends as MIKE. He was a native and a resident of Eight-Mile, AL and passed away Saturday, May 7, 2016, just a few weeks shy of his 53rd birthday. He was preceded in death by his Mother, Jean Drew, and survived by:  his wife, Vicki Clarke Drew, 1 son, Danny & (Kelli) Drew of Eight-Mile, AL and 1 daughter, Brittany & (Steve) Kent of Australia, 2 grandchildren Brayden Kent & Brooks Drew and 1 grandchild on-the-way. His father, Dennis & (Donna) Drew of Eight-Mile, AL, 2 brothers; Donnie Drew of Stockton, AL and Ricky Drew of Mobile, AL and 1 sister, Stacey & ( Brandon) White of Bagdad, FL, His mother-in-law, Myrtle Clark,  Brother-in-law's, Gary (Karen) Clark & Dale Clark, a sister-in-law Elaine Clark along with numerous nieces & nephews.

Mike was born on June 4, 1963 in Mobile and grew up in the Eight-Mile area where he met the love of his life, Vicki.  They were married 35 years and loyal one to the other the entire time.  She was the center of his world and his love for her was absolute. His children Danny & Brittany were his pride and joy, taking advantage of every opportunity to brag on them both. He was truly happy to know they both found their soul mates just as he had.  He shared with them his love for the outdoors, his wisdom and his trade. Just when he thought life could not get any better, his grandchildren were born.  Many tears came from the thoughts that he had limited time with his grandchildren and the things he would miss. However, drying his tears, he always finished with; I know they are going to be okay because they have Vicki, and my children who can pass on what I taught them.   He sincerely loved his family and was especially close to his late mother, Jean.  He mentioned often how nice it was going to be to hug her again, soon.  He loved her pound cake and watching Nascar Races with her.  He wasn't one to race cars himself but he always cheered and supported his brothers Donnie & Ricky when they raced.  You could always tell who Mike was talking to on the phone when his ear was red.  His baby sister Stacey or his Aunt Sue; who were always doting over him and reminding him of what his momma said and what his daddy was gonna say.  His father Dennis, was the corner stone to the man Mike became, instilling in him the responsibly of providing for his family. Losing a loved-one is never easy but, losing a child is said to be the hardest of all, especially when the parent is so proud of his son and the life he lived.

Mike easily made numerous lifelong friendships that many would describe as inseparable; a bond so strong, nothing could break it.  As a friend, Mike was someone you could count on. When called, he would come running without question, normally with his trusty companion, his hammer.  He was fun to be around always smiling and kidding around never judging.  He was fearless and never afraid to stand up for what he felt was right; or on the tallest ridge of a house for that matter. He loved animals, and we all know REBEL was his favorite. As a matter of fact, half of this room could tell a story about their experience with Rebel.  Rebel should have been a cat, because he definitely had nine lives. 

 Mike's stride for perfection was evident in his competitive nature especially in sports.  He was an ALABAMA fan and cheered his team to victory many times. Mike was an exceptionally good softball player too. He loved the sport and especially the comradery he had with his team mates and the friendships he made on the field.  He really struggled with the thought of not being able to play but his health just wouldn't let him continue.  However, he didn't let that stop him from hunting. He was passionate about hunting and fishing and everything that went along with it. He hunted year round, whatever was in season and if it wasn't hunting season, it was fishing season.  The thing he enjoyed most about hunting and fishing was being with people.  Late nights with plenty of laughter, never deterred him from rising with excitement to get in the woods before the sun came up.  He was famous for repeatedly asking; Where's everybody going to hunt? and then changing his mind numerous times before settling on the best spot. He was closest to God when he climbed a tree, cause he climbed so high, he was almost there. You can bet the shooting houses he had anything to do with building, was the ones everybody wanted to hunt from. He was the official hunting camp grill master, always cooking enough to feed an army, cause if Mike cooked it, they would come.  
If you ever shook Mike's hand, you would see why he earned respect without demanding it. He was an extremely hard worker and expected nothing less from those working with him.  However, none of us every reached his level.  He understood he was stronger than most, but expected your very best effort just the same, and you better learn quick not to drag that pencil across the line twice.  He took pride in everything he did and demanded perfection from himself more than he did others. Most of all, he was a fighter and determined to live life on his terms, never giving up.  Even as his health was failing, nothing prevented him from working.  He would schedule Chemo & Radiation on off days or to and from the work site.  He was determined to provide for his family and fought all the way to the end working even though his body was not quite up to the task. Hospice?, Tell them they will have to wait till I get off work.  His tough exterior concealed a heart as big and soft as any has ever seen. 

One of Mike's favorite sayings was: I'm not hard to please.   This was evident, as he was a simple uncomplicated but wise man whose wisdom far exceeded his formal education and the depth of his thoughts would often amaze you.

Mike may not have been a church goer, but his love for the Lord was no secret with the way he lived his life. Be assured his heart was right with the Lord and he looked forward to meeting his Savior.  Looking back, he laughed about being able to see his T-shirt with J. J. from the TV show Good Times, thru his baptism gown.  Being a carpenter like Jesus, rest assured he will take his dad's advice to be a leader in heaven and head-up a crew to prepare our houses there too.  If their anything like what he built here on earth, we can expect mansions like heaven has never seen.  

We know that before us lay an empty vessel of what is and always will be a great and loving husband, father, grandfather and eternal friend. Cancer may have taken his life but will never erase the wonderful memories he left for us to cherish. He lived his life with few regrets, stubbornness being one.  There is no way he could have known just how much of an inspiration he was to so many people.  Now his legacy is passing on to his children and those who survived him. What we do with our lives will carry on what he started in us. It is now our responsibility to carry on what he taught us. We think his final message would be: "Don't wait until you're sick or perfect to accept the Lord. Because he will accept you as you are. Just love the Lord and He will take care of the rest. And finally he would say "Yall don't dwell on this crap, it will bring the whimp out in ya.

My amazing brother was the most giving, kind, selfless, strong and loving man that I've ever known. And EVERYONE that had the pleasure of knowing Mike would describe him the same way. I can honestly say that I have never heard anyone say one bad thing about him. His humor was one of a kind and even in the last days while being so sick he continued to make us laugh. The love he had for his family and friends was so admirable and we all saw it and felt it every single time we were with him or just on the phone with him. I feel very blessed that God made me his little sister. He will be missed by so many people!! 
He never wanted any praise for all the good things he did for so many people throughout his life....he knew he was a good person!! On Friday morning I was telling him what a wonderful big brother he has been.... through the pain, the suffering and the effects of his medication he said, I've been a good brother to a lot of people!! That made me smile to know that he knew what a great person he ALWAYS has been. I love you brother and I know our mama greeted you and she had the best Mother's Day she'd had in years.

Some of my fondest memories were catching fire flies in Ms Jeans and Mr Dennis's back yard with my brothers and sister and Mike, Donnie and Rick. (Stacey wasn't around yet).  It's hard to believe Mike is gone. Always sweet and laid back with a memorable laugh and smile.  My heart goes out to all of the Drews.  Vicki - you and Mike were a perfect couple and you will be again.  Anyone who knew Mike was blessed.  Rest in peace my brave cousin.
