
Milton Jones – a native of Goodsprings, AL and resident of Satsuma, AL died Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at the age of 93. Mr. Jones was a WWII veteran who served in the U.S. Navy. He retired with Alabama Power after 45 years of service (Gorgas and Barry Steam Plant). He was a member of the First Baptist Church Satsuma where he served as a Deacon. He was active with the Boy Scouts Troop #153 in Axis, served as President of the Satsuma Civitan Club and was an avid hunter and gardener. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nella Dean Merrett Jones; son, Milton Darryl Jones and his daughter-in-law Margaret Bonifay Jones; his parents Ollie and Mirley Jones; brothers: L.C., Perlous, Doyle, Rayford, Bert; and sisters Jocie and Xan. Survivors include three sons, James Thomas (Sandi) Jones, Albert Mitchell Jones and Richard E. (Kim) Jones; one daughter, Rebecca Jones (Ralph) Sorrell; one sister, Ollie Nevada (Will) Stipes; seven grandchildren: Kristin Jones [Brian] Johnson, Richard Thomas [Rebecca] Jones, Pam Hart [Floyd] Childress, Rebecca Jones [Jeffrey] Boren, Jackie Jones [Joel] Peebles, Allen Evans Sorrell and Bonnie Grace Sorrell; six great-grandchildren: Addisyn Johnson, Emma Johnson, Madison Childress, Gary Boren, Lily Boren, and Madison Peebles; and a beloved family friend, Mrs. Smithie Austin; nieces, nephews and other relatives.The family would like to say thank you to friends George & Louise Moody, Helen Rhodes and Dot & Jake Warren as well as Smithie Austin for their assistance in helping Milton while at home. A special thank you to the staff and associates of Terrace Oaks Nursing and Rehab of Bessemer for 3 years filled with love and care. Funeral services were held Saturday, December 8, 2012, at 11 a.m. from the chapel of Radney Funeral Home in Saraland. The family received friends at the funeral home beginning at 10 a.m. prior to services. Delivering the message was Bro. Roy Hill of First Baptist Church, Satsuma. Pall Bearers: Allen Evans Sorrell, Ralph Evans Sorrell, Herman Glenn Crouch, Jeffrey Boren, Dan McConaghy and Gary Stubbs. Interment was in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to First Baptist Church Satsuma, Satsuma Fire & Rescue Dept. or City of Satsuma Senior Services.
