Joyce was born on April 16, 1943, in Brewton, Alabama, to Charlie T. Wiggins and Bertie M. Wiggins. She was raised in Evergreen and Mobile, Alabama, where she formed lifelong friendships and developed a deep love for her family and the communities she called home.
Joyce was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, homemaker, and faithful Christian. She was the heart and glue of her family, always there to care for, encourage, and support those she loved. She had the sweetest demeanor, a warm and generous heart, and a friendly personality that made everyone feel welcome. She rarely complained and had a remarkable ability to make people feel loved and cared for.
Her faith was an important part of her life, Joyce loved the Lord and faithfully served at Wilson Avenue Baptist Church in Saraland and Jones Chapel in Evergreen. She worked in the nursery at Wilson Avenue Baptist for well over 20 years and taught a ladies’ Bible class at Jones Chapel. Her strong Christian family and example had a lasting influence on her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Joyce’s greatest joy was her family. She loved her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, and friends with all her heart. Many of her friends became like family, and her family was blessed by the countless ways she gave of herself throughout their lives.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie T. Wiggins and Bertie M. Wiggins; her husband, Jim Calvert, her daughter, Lynn Dickson; her son-in-law, Tommy Dickson; her grandson, Chad Calvert; and other beloved family members who went before her.
She is survived by her son, Scott Calvert (Molly); daughter, Leigh Calvert; and son, Bradley Calvert (Heather); seven grandchildren, Jessica, Michael (Beth), Ashley, Derick, Brittney, Christopher (Kristian), and Matthew; and eight great-grandchildren, Penelope, Lilian, Parker, Kamryn, Easton, Kathryn, Waylon and Mason. She also, leaves behind many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and cherished friends who were like family to her.
Joyce will be remembered for her unwavering faith, warm heart, gentle spirit, love for her family, friendly personality, and the love she freely shared with everyone who knew her. She leaves behind a beautiful legacy of faith, family, service and love.
Though she will be deeply missed, her family takes comfort in knowing that Joyce is now at peace with the Lord and reunited with those who went before her.
Visitation will be held for Joyce at Radney Funeral Home, 1200 Industrial Parkway, Sarland, Alabama 36575 on Wednesday, August 12, 2026 from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm.
Funeral Service will be held in the chapel of Radney Funeral Home at 2:00 pm.
Graveside services and interment will follow at Pine Crest Cemetery, 1939 Dauphin Island Parkway, Mobile, Alabama 36605.
In lieu of saying goodbye, Joyce’s family invites all who knew and loved her to remember her by sharing the kindness, faith, warmth, and love that she freely gave to others.
