

He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Jenette Weston Pope; his children, Debbie Pope Lindley, Kathy Pope Cope, and Randy Pope; stepdaughters, Donna (David) Salter and Deanna (George) Beck; grandchildren Meredith (Michael) Lafferty, Jacob (Jennifer) Lindley, and Kelsey Cope; step-grandchildren, Nicole (Ryan) White, Chelsea (Josh) Rogers, Natalie (Shawn) Lewis, Justin (Sara) Beck, and Hilary Salter; great-grandchildren Cooper Lafferty and Emmett Lindley; step-great-grandchildren Judah and Rozalyn White.
Born and raised in Vineland, Alabama, he was a decorated army veteran, having served with Bravo company 180th infantry regiment in the Korean War. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart, the Occupation Medal (Japan), the Korean Service Medal with two bronze service stars, and the United Nations Service Medal. Mr. Pope was honorably discharged in 1952 as a Sergeant First Class.
After his army service, he returned to Alabama and began working for the Alabama State Highway department, where he worked for 32 years. By the end of his career, he had worked his way up to the role of district engineer with the highway department. Visitation will be Wednesday, December 14, 2016, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Radney Funeral Home, Saraland. The funeral service will be held Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at Redemption Church. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
