Born on December 22, 1953, Jr. was the beloved son of Jeff and June Johnston. He grew up in the Mt. Vernon community and attended Citronelle High School. Throughout his life, he was known for his kind heart, quiet strength, and unwavering devotion to his family and friends.
On August 7, 1976, Jr. married the love of his life, Teresa Rhodes Johnston. Together they shared nearly fifty years of marriage, building a family rooted in love, laughter, faith, and cherished memories.
Jr. dedicated several years of service to the Mobile County Health Department, where he worked in the Information Technology Department before retiring. He had a natural curiosity and appreciation for technology, always eager to learn about the latest gadgets and innovations. His knowledge, work ethic, and willingness to help others earned him the respect of colleagues and friends alike.
A faithful member of Lafitte Baptist Church, Jr. lived his life guided by his faith and his commitment to serving and caring for others.
Outside of work, Jr. found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He enjoyed bass fishing, hiking the trails of Chickasabogue Park, and carpentry projects. Whether he was outdoors enjoying nature or working with his hands on a new project, he approached life with enthusiasm and appreciation. He also shared a special bond with his beloved dog, Maggie, who brought him companionship and comfort over the years.
Above all, Jr.'s greatest pride and joy was his family. He is survived by his devoted wife, Teresa Johnston; his daughter, Krista Johnston Coburn (James); and his son, Bart Johnston (Jamie).
He was a proud grandfather to Dustin (Heather) and Eli Coburn; Andrew Brown (Jeri); Ariel Ammons (Joseph); and Victoria Hiatt. He was also blessed to be a great-grandfather to Kai, Addy, and Chloe Coburn.
Jr. is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Denise Johnston and Rita Johnston; his nephew, Matt Johnston (Linda); his niece, Jessica DeWald (Greg); and his nephew, Jarrod Johnston (Kacey), along with many extended family members, church family, and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jeff and June Johnston, and his brothers, Bobby Johnston and Ricky Johnston.
His legacy of love, kindness, faith, and devotion to family will continue to live on through the generations that follow him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at Radney Funeral Home in Saraland, Alabama, beginning at 1:00 p.m., followed by funeral services at 2:00 p.m. Committal will take place at Mobile Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 6100 Three Notch Rd, Mobile, AL 36619, US, on June 25, 2026, from 10:00 am to 10:30 pm.
