William Delano "Bill" Mears, 89, of Saraland, Alabama passed away on September 4th, 2025, at William F. Green Veterans Home in Bay Minette, Alabama after a lengthy battle with Parkinson's Disease. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, September 10, 2025 at Central Church of Christ in Saraland, Alabama with a visitation starting at 10:00 AM, followed by the funeral service at 12:00 PM. Brother Billy Lambert and Brother David Dixon officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery. The service will be live-streamed on the church's website and Facebook page.
Bill was born in Prichard, Alabama to George E. and Rosa Mears. He graduated from Vigor High School in 1955 and went on to serve in the United States Air Force. He worked as an electrician at Scott Paper Company for 33 years before retiring in 1995. After retiring, he and his beloved wife Susie, traveled the country in their RV, volunteering their time to churches, bible camps, bible schools or children's home’s in need of repairs.
Bill was known to his family and many others as Pop. He never met a stranger as he loved being around people and could put a smile on anyone's face. He always loved to be around children, especially his grandchildren. Pop was a jack of all trades. There was not much he could not repair and enjoyed fixings things for others. He was an avid Alabama football fan with Gene Stallings being his favorite coach. Most of all, he was a faithful follower of Christ and over his life attended the Plateau, Fairview, Azalea City and Central Church of Christ congregations where he had served as a Deacon, Elder and other positions. The things Pop cherished the most were Jesus, Family, Country and SWEETS.
He is preceded in death by his parents and only brother, George "Bubba" Mears. Left to cherish his memories are his wife of 65 years, Susie Eubanks Mears, children, Wendell (Trish) Mears of Spanish Fort, AL; Kenny (Michelle) Mears of Aiken, SC; Lisa (Randy) Radford of Saraland, AL; Chris (Darlena) Mears of Saraland, AL; Sister In Law, Jannette Mears of Mobile, Al., Twelve Grandchildren and Nineteen Great Grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Grandson's Chad Mears of Moncks Corner, SC; Michael Mears of Rocky Creek, MS; Dylan Mears of Hurley, MS; Jackson Mears of Rocky Creek, MS; Tanner Mears of Saraland, AL and Johnathan Roddy of Rocky Creek, MS.
