William “Bruce” Winfield was born on November 20, 1956, in Mobile, Alabama. On March 26, 2026, he passed from this earth into heaven to be with the Lord for eternity, with his beautiful wife of 45 years, Lea Sprague Winfield, at his side.
His relationship with his wife, Lea, was so special in that the Lord brought them together many years ago to grow together as a couple, work together very successfully at Mobile Baldwin Warehouses, completely spoil their four legged “children,” and enjoy the outdoors. Bruce and Lea were both avid outdoorsmen, spending as much time as they could in Butler, Alabama at their hunting camp. Bruce loved teaching young people to respect nature and how to hunt, especially his nephews and nieces.
Despite his recent battle with cancer, he remained strong and courageous, confident in his eternal future because of the promise of salvation for all who believe in Jesus Christ and accept him as their Lord and Savior. Joshua 1:9, “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid. Do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” His heart was full of love, faith, strength, endurance, humility, determination and generosity. Some of the recent conversations with him were around his desire to make sure that his family, friends, and everyone, was aware of the love of God and how to ensure their eternal future with Christ. Romans 10:9, “If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Bruce showed an enormous amount of quiet generosity, many, many times helping those experiencing difficult seasons, with absolutely no expectation of repayment or reciprocation.
Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, Earl Willis Winfield and Joyce Pittman Horn, his grandparents Letra Jones and William Gip Winfield; Vera Mae Thomley and Jesse Bruce Pittman. Bruce is survived by the love of his life, his beautiful wife Lea Sprague Winfield; his four-legged, spoiled sidekick R.D.; step-mothers Patricia Winfield Buchanan and Jeanette Winfield Miller; step-father Claude Horn; siblings Greg (Lynne) Winfield, Alan (Shea) Winfield, Melanie Winfield (Scotty) Dunagan, Mark Horn, Pam Horn Rose; brother in law Donnie (Tobey) Sprague; many nieces and nephews; aunts, uncles, cousins, and countless friends.
