Al was 82 years young...
Al Packwood was a proud Navy man who served on two Aircraft Carriers- one of which is
permanently docked in NY harbor the "USS INTREPID". Throughout the eighties and into the
nineties one of Al's passions was officiating soccer. Starting out as a local youth league referee
Al made his way to professional referee status in Southern California- finally ending his career
as a FIFA recognized official. Al retired from his career with Riverside County to travel the
country full time with his wife in their RV. For more then a decade Al drove his passion for
travel and his giant pusher RV from California to Maine, and from Florida to Washington Statewith
a few stops in the Great White North just because he could. Landing eventually in
Bradenton Fl, Al became a fixture at Rosedale Golf and Country Club where he proceeded to
play 32 rounds of golf a day (well if they would have let him). For more then a decade Al
showed his true colors as an indispensable part of Rosedale's Golf experience. There was no one
at Rosedale who didn't know and love Al, he cared about the work, the game, and most of all the
people, just ask anybody. In his final days Al lived with his wife Vicky at Gold-Tree retirement
community.
Al completed his journey much like he lived it... loving and supporting his Wife, his
Children, Grandchildren, Great-Grandchildren, and anybody with an open mind and open heart
who encountered him. He will be sorely missed by all- there was no one like him.
He is survived by his loving wife Vicky, three son's; Fred & wife Kathy, Andy & wife Cherie,
Chris & wife Amy, eleven grand children; Kristin, Bryon, Erick, Troy, Brittany, Danny, Andrea,
Daniel, Marissa, Joshua, Emily, and six great grandchildren; Kylie, Teah, Piper, Audrey,
Rosalind, and Sawyer.
He is preceded in death by his parents Harry & Doris Packwood, and brother Harry Packwood Jr.
Visitation will be held on Thursday February 4th, 2021 from 10am to 12pm at Robert Toale &
Sons funeral home, 170 Honore Ave, Sarasota, Graveside Service to follow at Sarasota National
Cemetery around 1pm.
