

Today we mourn the passing of Arline Crystal Stern Ingber. Arline was a women well ahead of her time! She started her career as a children’s clothes buyer, in the garment center, in New York City. She was both an independent women and also the matriarch for many family members and friends. They all loved her deeply for her optimistic spirit, intelligent conversations, integrity and artistic passions.
Arline Crystal was born on August 23, 1929 in the Bronx NY where she attended Queens College. Arline raised her two children Brett and Ellyn in Yonkers NY with the love of her life, the late Dr. George Stern. She and George were true soulmates and she ran his medical practice, which was a family enterprise with George’s sister also working in the office.
After George passed, Arline’s strength and determination lead her to a career at IT&T, learning how to do new computer programming for office phone systems. She demonstrated her strength as a strong, independent mother to her then teenage children.
Arline loved to travel and some of her favorite places were Vietnam, China, Japan, Italy, Australia, Egypt and Israel. She would visit art museums wherever her travels took her.
Art was her passion for all of her life and amazed folks with her skills in hand built ceramics, making everything from huge planters, wall hangings, and functional serving pieces. She often combined materials, cutting up old plates to create her unique mosaic tables and sculptures. Arline also created beautiful quilts for her grandchildren, Glenn and Julie’s cribs plus bedding and wall hangings for their bedrooms.
Arline moved to Maitland Florida from NYC, then to the Fountains Elance in Sarasota, where she always found a great group of friends to discuss the news, enjoy intellectual conversations and Art.
Arline will be missed by her friends & family including her children, Brett Stern and Elllyn Stern (John); grandchildren, Julie Rivkees, Glenn Rivkees (Carolyn) and their dad Peter, Rachel, Debbie, Damien, Mandi, Lane, Grant and Barbara; great-grandchildren, Rachael, Abby, Braden, Ellie, & Layla. Arline; and her best friend, since age 19, Dorothy.
Arline died at age 93, 10 days shy of her 94th birthday. The week prior she was joyful, listening to the latest books and discussing the news. She had amazing life almost to the very end. We will all miss her so & she has left such a positive impact on our lives.
