December 24, 1925 – January 18, 2024
Mr. Longevity, Arnold Melvin Greenfield, resident of Sarasota, Florida
passed away on January 18, 2024, shortly after his 98th birthday.
Daddy or Arnie, as Arnold was fondly known, was just two years shy of reaching a full century of life. For most of that life he was a loving/beloved husband, father, and grandfather. Arnie was the quintessential family man and would do anything for his wife, children, and grandchildren.
Born in Newark, NJ, USA on December 24, 1925, he was the oldest of two brothers born to Sarah Helen Lighter and Benjamin Greenfield, and little did Arnie know that by meeting the love of his life Barbara Ratner (deceased), it would lead him to places he would have never gone to otherwise—Medellin, Colombia, where he lived with his wife Barbara and children for over twelve years.
He was truly an amazing guy, as he was sweetest and most charming under good terms, but watch out when not... Nevertheless, he was possibly the most selfless person you would ever meet, always ready to give a helping hand, no matter how difficult or challenging the circumstances. Moreover, he was never wrong, just because he was always right, no matter what.
He will definitely be remembered for his great looks and especially that he was still driving at 98. But what will make Arnie most unforgettable is his wit and special sense of humor; like magic he could make you smile, chuckle, and laugh, and he did so right till the very end of his life. And lastly but not least, while he hated to “patchka” in the kitchen, his cooking was simply the best…especially his tomato gravy for pasta and other Italian delicacies.
He is survived by his brother Gerald, his children Michael (Jane), Richard (Madeline), Bennet (Lorena) and Susan; and grandchildren Elizabeth, Nicole, Shaun, Eric (Temima), and David (Gabriel).
Hasta siempre Dady.
