She was a homemaker, preschool teacher, and office assistant. Avis was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico on May 28, 1950 and attended Ponce High where her mother taught history. She graduated from the University of Puerto Rico in Mayaguez with a bachelor degree in history and married Andres Medina soon thereafter. She was an avid reader and had many interest and hobbies. She pursued graduate studies in nursing and later on in theology. She was a world class cook, cake decorator, and seamstress who made some of her young children’s clothes. At different times, she resided in Puerto Rico, Mexico, Texas, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Ohio, Netherlands, and Florida.
She touched everyone wherever she went. She was a kind, caring, and loving friend, mother, grandmother, daughter, and sister who will be missed greatly and was loved by all.
A Visitation will take place at Palms-Robarts Funeral Home in Sarasota, Florida – Saturday May 25th, 2013 from 6pm – 8pm.
