After a long illness, Barbra Johnson Craig, age 87, peacefully returned home on Wednesday, May 24th, 2023, in the house she loved for the past 45 years in Sarasota Florida surrounded by her family. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents Pauline and Earle Johnson, husband Pete Craig, stepdaughter Irene Larson, and stepson Harry Craig. Barbara is survived by her daughter Linda Nitch, son John Craig, stepdaughter Mary Thomas, her longtime friend and partner Jack Seaman, 10 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Barbara’s legacy will be her love of life, her warm smile and sense of humor. Barbara grew up in Park Ridge Illinois and attended Maine High School. Barbara maintained all of the friendships she made there her entire life.
Barbara and Pete owned and ran the Arlington Inn in Arlington Heights Illinois for many years. They enjoyed many wonderful trips in their Travco motor home seeing most of the United States. They then retired to Sarasota in 1978 where they build their dream home. For over 40 years she enjoyed golf, bridge and made many new friends. In 2002 Barbara and Jack were introduced by mutual friends and spent the last 22 years traveling and enjoying life, they took over thirty cruises together.
Heaven’s gain is our loss, as she is reunited with family and friends. We will all continue to live, and hold close the love she left behind. Services will be held at Elks Lodge South Number 2495, 5680 Rosin Way, Sarasota Fl. 34233 from 1-4pm on Wednesday May 31st.
