Barbara DiMatteo Gasser, 78, a long-time resident of Sarasota, passed away Friday, November 20, 2020. Barbara, originally from Massachusetts, grew up in Brighton, the daughter of Armando and Norma DiMatteo.
Barbara left home as a teenager to pursue a dance career in New York City and joined the famed Radio City Music Hall Rockettes. After she left New York she was a store owner and then pursued a career as an Insurance Broker. Her love of dance was lifelong, and she found opportunities to teach along the way to inspire the next generation.
Barbara is survived by three daughters, Laura Peterson of Ardsley, NY (Bart Peterson), Kari Brawn of Westbrook, ME and Kimberly Karl of Sarasota FL, and seven grandchildren, Christopher Brawn, Kirsten Karl, Garrett Peterson, Samantha Karl, Oliver Peterson, Tucker Peterson and two great-grandchildren, Sara Brawn, and Ayla Lininger. Barbara is predeceased by her parents and her sister, Marsha Foley of Scituate, MA.
A celebration of life will be held at a future date.
