Barbara Leary was born in Havana, Cuba to her parents Elsa and Antonio Rivero on February 16, 1939, and passed peacefully on June 29, 2025. Barbara, known as Bobbie, was an independent woman who lived life on her own terms. Loved by many, Bobbie lived in Georgia for 50 years and was very active in the animal rescue community. She had a very successful career, having adventures as a flight stewardess, and then later as an IT recruiter. She was also an avid runner, winning many awards. We remember her as spirited and courageous, diligent and dedicated, and above all as a person who radiated warmth and love.
She was a caring mother to Jason Leary, who she had gone to be with in heaven, and a loving sister to Ruth Rivero-Human, as well as her brother-in-law, Joe Human. She was also an aunt to Michael and Joseph Human; a great aunt to Abigail Human, Brendalyn Mertens, Sean Mertens, Kenzie Human, and Anthony Human; and a wonderful cousin to many.
She spent the last years of her life in Florida, where she moved to be with her beloved sister Ruth, who, along with the rest of the family, will cherish and remember her forever.
A memorial service for Barbara will be held Sunday, July 13, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Robert Toale and Sons Funeral Home at Palms Memorial Park, 170 Honore Ave, Sarasota, FL 34232, followed by a celebration of life / reception from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM.
