Ben was born on November 9, 1948, in Topeka, Kansas to Doris and John Franklin. He spent most of his childhood in Lynchburg, VA with his 6 brothers and sisters. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1967 and served in the Vietnam War. Upon return, he continued to serve in the United States Marine Corps Reserve until 1989. Ben worked as an Account Executive for Ridgewells Catering from 1985-2000, Relator and Associate Broker for Long and Foster from 2001-2013 before retiring in Sarasota, Florida.
Ben was married twice, with a son, Sean, from his first marriage, born June 1973. He later remarried Isabel in November 1984. Ben’s second child, Natasha, was welcomed December 1985. He often referred to Isabel affectionally as “my bride” and all that knew him recognized the deep love he had for Isabel and his children.
Ben was an avid vintage muscle car enthusiast and loved cruising around town in his 1970 AMC AMX or 2014 Dodge Viper. He was an active member of First Coast AMC Club of Florida and enjoyed attending car shows. He loved sharing his passion for muscle cars with others and would go out of his way to make others feel special. He loved visiting with friends and family, often traveling the world with his wife, Isabel. Ben always made sure others were taken care and was loved by all who knew him.
Ben is survived by his wife; Isabel, children; Sean and Natasha, grandchildren; Russell and Eva. He is preceded in death by his parents, Doris and John.
Due to COVID, a small memorial service will be held later in September in Sarasota, Florida.
In lieu of flowers, the Franklin family would like for donations to be made to the Semper Fi Fund and American Liver Foundation in Ben’s memory.
