Clarence O. Adams, 97 of Sarasota, Florida passed away April 25, 2012. He was born on April 19, 1915 in Laurel, Mississippi.
He was a graduate of Sharon High School in 1941 and attended Jones County Junior College. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Education in 1950 and his Masters of Education in 1951 from the University of Mississippi. He taught school in Mississippi, Georgia and Ohio before retiring from teaching in 1976. Clarence served in the Civilian Conservation Corps of Mississippi in 1933. He also served in the Mississippi National Guard and served 4 years in the Navy during World War II. During this time, he served as a Pharmacist Mate with the U.S. Marines in the Southwest Pacific. He also served in American Samoa, British Samoa, Alaska, Siberia and Japan. After retiring from teaching he became involved in various volunteer programs including; Cleveland State University Juvenile Delinquents reading program and Women’s City Club of Cleveland Mental Health Program. He was a member of the National Panel of Consumer Arbitrators with the Better Business Bureau of Cleveland Ohio. Clarence was an Ordained Baptist Deacon and member of the Christian Fellowship Services to promote Gospel Singing. He was a member of Zeta Eta Chapter of Kappa Delta Pi, Honorary Education Fraternity and was a recipient of the Jennings Scholarship Award while teaching. He also volunteered at Sunnyside Nursing home in Sarasota, and served on the Board of Directors of his homeowners Association. He is a member of the Sharon First Baptist Church of Laurel Mississippi.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Bettie Jane (Kavanaugh) Adams; son, William C. Adams and his wife Debbie of Albuquerque, New Mexico; two daughters, Linda J. Ferguson and her husband Jim of Venice, Florida, and Mary L. King and husband Ken of Venice, Florida. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, two sisters and many nieces and nephews. He was loved dearly by all.

Graveside service will be Monday, April 30, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. in Sarasota National Cemetery.
