Sarasota, FL. A strong, kind and deeply loved man, Cliff was respected by all who knew him for his unwavering work ethic, competitive spirit and quiet moral fortitude. Born in Buffalo NY to the late Howard Lutz and Hattie Krenz, Cliff graduated from Burgard Vocational School of Buffalo with a technical degree.
In 1960 he moved to Ft. Myers, FL with his wife and young son for the start of his successful 45 year career in the Auto Body Repair business. He enjoyed boating, fishing, tennis and time with his family. Fresh fish was a regular dinner at the Lutz house- often shared with all the neighbors too - as no snook, redfish or tripletail were safe when Captain Cliff and the Dixie Livin’ were on the water. He took up tennis in his 40’s and played competitively for many years. Upon retirement in 2000 he moved to Sebring, FL and split time between FL and his legacy home he helped to build in Franklin, NC that is still enjoyed today by his family. He spent many hours in Franklin, gardening, refinishing furniture and building wooden toys to share with those he loved.
Cliff recently moved to Sarasota with his wife of 68 years, Daryle, to be closer to family. In addition to being survived by his wife, he is also survived by his son Steve of California, daughter Linda (Greg) Siefker of Sarasota, granddaughters Gretchen (Matt) Bakos of Sarasota, and Megan (Sean) Hufgard of Montana. He also leaves behind six cherished great grandchildren, Charles, Meredith, Audrey and Josephine Bakos and Penelope and Cliff Hufgard as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and brother Howard Jr.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date. The family requests that any donations in his memory be made to the Tidewell Hospice House of Sarasota who cared for him so lovingly in his final days.
