Cruz was born on April 18, 1937, in Havana, Cuba to Emeterio Fonte and Victoria Padron. He graduated from University of Havana, and was an electrician in the service field.
Some of Cruz’s achievements were having coached Little League Babe Ruth in a World Series; owned both an automobile repair and boat repair business; raised four sons; as well as helping and loving everyone he came across, before himself. His hobbies were reading, fishing, coaching baseball, and teaching English.
Cruz is preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Martha Fonte. He is survived by children Rene (Kathy) Fonte, Felix (Janice) Fonte, Cesar (Angie) Fonte, and Carlos (Andrea) Fonte; grandchildren, Dustin and Caleb Fonte, Caleb Blocker, Claire Marshall, Garrett & Felicia Fonte, Christopher & William Hicks, Bethany & Hannah Fonte, Alisha Buckman, Allie Castellano, and Lily, Joy, Andrew, Grace, Faith, & Hope Fonte; great-grandchildren, Lakynn, Joseph, Abram, Sutton, Charleigh-Beth, and “Little” Cruz, Kendall & Marley Hicks, and Tripp & Adeline Castellano; and siblings, Victor, Carmelina, Bienvenido, Domitila, and Anisia Fonte-Padron, and Luisa Mato.
