
Dr. Daniel Weiner, age 88, of Sarasota, passed away suddenly on Saturday, August 12, 2017. He was born December 15, 1928 to the late Max and Bessie (Charney) Weiner, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania Veterinary School, he worked in the Public Health Service with the CDC in Atlanta, Georgia, when he met Sheila; then they moved to Seattle, Washington before going into private practice in Atlanta, Georgia. While in Atlanta, he became active in the Jewish Community, serving on various boards, leading committees and presiding over The Hebrew Academy of Atlanta.
Before entering retirement, Dan received his pilot’s license allowing him to fly for, pleasure. After having traveled all over the world with his wife, he then purchased a small plane wherein he and Sheila would travel the United States on weekends and eventually landed and retiring to Sarasota, Florida. When he came to Florida, he renewed his veterinary license and volunteered at MOTE, The Pelican Man as well as emergency animal hospitals as a relief veterinarian. During all of this time, he was an avid bridge player, both competitively as well as for enjoyment.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Sheila Barskin Weiner; and brothers Dr. Raymond Weiner and the Honorable Charles Weiner, both of Pennsylvania.
He is survived by his daughter, Hilary Weiner, of Rockville, Maryland; brother, Gershon Weiner, of Savannah, Georgia; close friend and companion, Muriel Shindler, of Sarasota, Florida; stepdaughter, Janet Taylor Zwillinger, Dan Zwillinger, and his grandson, Kent Zwillinger, of Boston, Massachusetts, and several nephews and a niece.

Graveside services were held Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at Temple Beth Sholom cemetery at 11:00 am.
