It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of David Logue Andrus, Jr., age 87, in Sarasota, Florida. Dave (aka Pete) was born on August 12th, 1937, in Camden, New Jersey, to Dr. David Logue Andrus and Bertha Charlotte Morrison Andrus.
Dave graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in June of 1955 and from the University of Pennsylvania in May of 1959 with a BA in Journalism. He attended Rutgers Law School from 1959 to 1961. He then served his country with honor in the U.S. Army from November 1961 to November 1963, stationed in Kaiserslautern, Germany. During this time, he developed a love for travel.
After receiving an honorable discharge, Dave began his career as a train master for the Pennsylvania Railroad, where he met his beloved wife, Edna. He later worked in management for the Port Authority Transit Corporation (PATCO) for almost 30 years. After retiring, he continued his career as a consultant with Parsons Brinckerhoff for six years before finally retiring to Sarasota, FL, for a well-deserved rest.
Dave was a dedicated member of Haddon Heights Baptist Church in New Jersey from 1967 to 2003, where he served as a Deacon and the Chair of the School Board of Trustees for the affiliated high school, Baptist High School. From 2003 to 2023, he was an active member of Grace Baptist/Grace Community Church in Sarasota, Florida. An avid fisherman and golfer, Dave also had a lifelong passion for trains.
Dave is preceded in death by his parents, Dr. David Logue Andrus and Bertha Charlotte Morrison Andrus, and his brothers, John Hewitt Andrus, II (Natalie) and Paul Morrison Andrus. He is survived by his wife of almost 58 years, Martha Edna Spotts Andrus; his children, David Logue Andrus, III, Sarah Lynne Andrus Kyle (Shawn), and Jonathan Raymond Andrus (Rebecca); and eight grandchildren—Jackson Raymond Andrus, Anna Charlotte Kyle Black (Travis), Harrison Inskeep Andrus, William Logue Kyle, Madison Diana Andrus, Reagan Tamera Andrus, Benjamin Andrus Kyle, and Isabella Grace Kyle. He is also survived by his brother, Bruce Stephen Andrus (Dawn), and many nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to support Dave’s grandnephew and family in their mission work in Morogoro, Tanzania (fbmi.org/give Jerry Wyatt, III, #158) and/or to Tunnels to Towers (t2t.org), an organization that Dave supported.
Dave's life was a testament to dedication, family, faith, and love. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A visitation for David will be held Wednesday, January 15, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM at Robert Toale and Sons Funeral Home at Palms Memorial Park, 170 Honore Ave, Sarasota, FL 34232. The funeral service will follow at 10:45 AM. The committal service with military honors will be be at 12:30 PM at Sarasota National Cemetery, 9810 State Rd 72, Sarasota, FL 34241.
