Dean W. Courtright, 81, of Sarasota, Florida, joined our church triumphant on July 16, 2013.
He was born Sept 9, 1931 in Columbus, Ohio to Alma Watts Courtright and Ivan Stanley Courtright. He married Patricia K. Courtright on Feb 6, 1955. He graduated from Ridley Park High School in Ridley Park, Pennsylvania in 1949, then attended Penn State University and was a 1951 graduate of Charles Morris Price School in Philadelphia. Dean enlisted in the US Naval Reserve February 28, 1951. His theater of service was in Boston, the Mediterranean and the Caribbean. He received the Navy Occupation Award and National Defense Service medal. He received an Honorable Discharge on February 27, 1955.
Dean had a successful career in sales beginning with Dell Publishing Company where he was in Regional Sales in the Philadelphia area. Then he was District Sales Manager with the William E. Wright Company in Pennsylvania, Maryland and Washington, DC. He was promoted into the home office of Wrights and transferred to New York, where he became Executive Manager. In 1973, Dean took over a territory that the Wrights had open in Sarasota, Florida. Dean then joined the Prudential Insurance Company in 1974 as an Agent and remained until his retirement in 1999. Dean was an active member of Pine Shores Presbyterian Church where he demonstrated his love of Christ to others through his gentle and caring nature. He began as an Usher, as he had done in each of the churches in the four states of Pennsylvania, Maryland, New York and Florida. Then he was a Deacon, and an Elder, plus head of the Friendship Group for 14 years and Monarch for male home visitation for over 15 years. He was in charge of coordinating the Elders to serve the elements for communion for 15 years and spent countless hours on the Transportation Committee driving members to doctor's office appointments. He was a member of the Congregational Life Committee for 20 years and an active Greeter of Worshipers also for many, many years.
Dean also gave back to the community as a Cub Scout Leader and band chaperone and past President of the Kiltie Band Boosters. He was also clerk of the Election Polls for two decades. He is survived by his wife of over 58 years, Patricia K. Courtright, three children; Diane Prieur (Don), Donna Foley (Kevin) and David Courtright. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday July 23, 2013 at Pine Shores Presbyterian Church. The church is located at 6135 Beechwood Avenue in Sarasota.
