IN THE CARE OF

Donald Edward Critchfield, 79, of Sarasota, FL, formerly of Topeka, KS died Sept. 10, 2019.

Donald was born August 4, 1940 to Emma Murvene Church & Carroll Brady Critchfield. He graduated in 1958 from Topeka High School; in 1966 from Washburn University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics with Academic Honors/Cum Laude, Phi Kappa Phi; in 1970 from University of California Los Angeles, with a Master of Science/Major in Business Administration. He has a 27 year career at the U.S. Department of Commerce, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and retired as a Director/National Oceanic Services at age 51.

After retirement, Don owned and operated a successful travel agency franchise (Travel Network), located in Rockville, Maryland. Following that, he fulfilled his dream of relocating to the west coast of Florida.

He had a passion for collecting antiques and was an avid history enthusiast. In addition to sailing, skiing, and his collection of prized sports cars (Austin-Healey, Champagne Edition Corvette, and Ferrari Mondial), Don was very fond of his beloved cats. He traveled to many destinations for both business and pleasure, including Europe, Egypt, Hawaii, Bermuda, and South America; and enjoyed staying for a period of time in both Hawaii and Italy.

He is predeceased by his parents; and is survived by his wife, Anna Critchfield; children, Angela Campanella (John), Alex Critchfield (Heather); grandchildren Elee and Lila; sister, Careen Cain (Brent); brother, Gene Critchfield (Nancy); sister-in-law, Olga Epelboim (Yakov); along with many other cherished family members.
