Ned passed away at home after courageously fighting a long illness. Born in Buena Vista, VA, a Sarasota resident since 1955; Ned graduated from SHS in 1960 and the University of FL in 1965. He was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity.
He began his career growing and selling plants and started his life-long business “The Flagman” in 1971. During his illness he continued to go to his shop on a daily basis until recently. Since then Ned’s sister DeDe Horne has managed the business with his daily input.
A devoted partner, brother, uncle and friend; Ned loved his family and friends and enjoyed interacting with all his customers throughout the years. He never met a stranger.
Survivors include his partner and companion in life of 23 years, Carrie Spurrier; sister, DeDe Horne, both of Sarasota; brother, James (Judy) Ebert of Athens, GA; nieces, Shera (Chris) Warren and Alyssa Shinn, all of Sarasota and many extended family members.
A memorial service will be held on Sat. May 9, 2015 at 1 pm at Palms-Robarts Funeral Home, Sarasota, FL.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a favorite charity.
