Emil was born on July 31, 1927, in Newark, N.J. He was a veteran of the United States Army, then graduated from Tri-State College in Angola, Indiana with a BS in Business. He also earned his teaching degree.
He was a dedicated schoolteacher in New Jersey and Florida, where he taught Special Education for more than 30 years. He was well-loved by his students and faculty alike.
Emil married the late Geraldine (Pace) DeSpirito in 1953, and together they welcomed 5 children, Lisa DeSpirito, Marilyn DeSpirito, Deborah Allen, Amy Colmorgen (John), and Emil “Duke” DeSpirito Jr. (Debra). The family moved from West Long Branch, New Jersey to Bradenton, Florida in 1978, and became parishioners of Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Catholic Church.
Emil is survived by his wife of 36 years, Gilda DeSpirito. Together they enjoyed spending time with their families and traveling the United States.
His most valued treasures, his grandchildren; are here to carry on his legacy of love; Caradine Allen, Madison Colmorgen, Miles Allen, Taylor Palacios (Quincy), Skylar Muhametaj (Hysen), Ariana, Miles Jr., Paisley, Maxwell, Yolani, Pierce, and Leonora.
Emil was a very religious person, active in the Catholic faith. He lived a full life dedicated to God, family, and love. He enjoyed traveling, mastering crossword puzzles, and watching all sports, but particularly rooted for his New York Giants and Yankees.
The family will have a private celebration of life.
