

Flora E. Gertzof, 91, of Sarasota, FL, died peacefully on November 12, 2021 surrounded by family while under hospice care at Sarasota Memorial Hospital. Flora resided at Bay Village of Sarasota in Independent Living, where she was cared for by the loving staff of Bay Village Home Health.
Born in Chicago, IL, a full charge bookkeeper, Flora worked for several companies in IL and FL before retiring from Paver Development in Sarasota.
Flora enjoyed Reading, Sudoku puzzles, playing Rummikub with grandson Dylan and friend Barbara Ungaro, attending musical events in the auditorium, watching Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune & The Chase, and spending time with her daughters. In earlier days, she enjoyed bowling, dancing, fine dining, travel, and cruises.
Granddaughter Simone Medlin shares that what will be missed most about her grandmother is her quick sense of humor and the way she could get everyone smiling.
Grandson Dylan Medlin describes how he will miss the shared likeness of puzzles, frogs, and Rummikub, and the fond appreciation of fun they would have together after school.
Preceded in death by her second husband Seymour Gertzof, and first husband Walter Windisch (who passed away at the early age of 60), brother Walter Marchiori, parents, Ida and Lawrence Marchiori, and dear friend Dorothy Greenberg.
Flora is survived by daughters Laura (Woody) Medlin, Linda Royall, and grandchildren Simone and Dylan Medlin, all of FL. Niece Colette Butkus, her daughter Nicole (Cooper) Turek, and Sister-in-law Pam Marchiori all of IL. Her late spouse’s son, Stephen Gertzof of FL, his son, Mark Gertzof and grandson Dax of IL. Grandson Kenneth (Susie) Bean, of the late Richard Gertzof and grandchildren Zach and Molly Bean of CO.
While she will be memorialized at Sarasota National Cemetery, and added to first husband’s marker, Flora truly loved both husbands and was thankful for each.
In honoring Flora’s wishes, her ashes will be spread at sea, to join both Seymour and Walter.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, December 4, 2021 at 10:30 am, in Bay Village Auditorium, 8400 Vamo Road, Sarasota, FL 34231, and on Thursday, December 9, 2021, 9:30 am at Sarasota National Cemetery, 9810 State Road 72, Sarasota, FL 34241.
