
Floyd graduated in 1946 from Wagner College in Staten Island, NY. He proudly served our country in the United States Navy as a Seaman 1st Class and earned a World War II Victory Medal. Floyd later worked and retired from Sarasota Memorial Hospital as a Medical Electronics Supervisor. He was a founding member of St. Wilfred Episcopal Church, and was an active member of IATSE and the Mason’s. Floyd had a passion for flying and volunteered for the Sarasota Air Search and Rescue. He also enjoyed golfing, crafts, cooking, and sewing.
Floyd is preceded in death by his wife, Caroline M (Guarino) Powell in 2009; and his brother, Chris Powell. He is survived by his children, Dick DelGrosso, Diane (John) Walsh, Melodie (William) Douglas, Karen (Jim) Hatton, and Lawrence (Kizz) Powell; grandchildren, Greg, Jackie, John, Daniel, Shelly, Matt, David, Davida, Steven, Willie, Jennalin, Royce, Tiegan and Caitlyn; 15 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; and his sister, Margaret Halvorsen.
A memorial service for Floyd will be on August 20, 2016 at 10 AM at Palms Robarts Funeral Home and Memorial Park; 170 Honore Ave in Sarasota, FL. Officiating will be Virginia N. Herring.
