On March 5, 2021 Fred Haman Vassari, loving husband and father of three daughters, passed away at the age of 88. Fred was born on July 24, 1932 in Yonkers, NY to Nick and Violet (Wolfe) Vassari. He served in the US Army from 1951 until 1953. On June 18, 1955 he married Joan Helen Macior. She was the love of his life for 66 years. They raised three daughters: Helen (Greg) Githens of Lakewood Ranch, FL; Susan (Steven) Forsyth of Coral Springs, FL; and Ethel (Glenn) Pelletiere of Township of Washington, NY. Fred retired from the General Motors plant in Tarrytown, NY.
Fred enjoyed making friends wherever he went. He loved to cook, especially Italian food. He combined these two activities by bringing the “best chicken cutlets ever” to people at the bank and to his doctors and others in stores he frequented. He was always offering a cold drink to the postman and the landscape crew.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Joseph and Nick. He is survived by his wife; his three daughters; his sister, Laurie; his brother, Michael; and his seven grandchildren, Dustin and his wife Sara, Tara, Dominic, Madison, Samantha, Steven, and Olivia. His first great grandchild is due in July.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday March 23, 2021 at Bayside Community Church’s East Sarasota campus, 8200 Bee Ridge Road at 9:30 a.m. followed by military honors and a dove release at Sarasota National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to his favorite charity – St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Fred’s parting words to people he met were “Have a lovely day and a healthy one and remember, the Good Lord loves you!”
