Gay (Casabona) Scacchetti, 87, passed away on June 13, 2018 at Tidewell Hospice in Sarasota. Born the eldest daughter to Paul Casabona and Bessie (Amato) Casabona in Brooklyn, NY. She is predeceased by her husband, Richard, her parents, brothers, Lou and Jack, and sister, Concetta.
Gay began her career as a professional dress designer and seamstress working in NYC. She married Richard V. Scacchetti in 1961. They have two children, Ellen and James, and a grandson, Damien. They were happily married for 55 years.
Gay began her second career as a homemaker raising Ellen and Jim and caring for numerous cats who became her children throughout the years. Her husband’s career took them from Virginia to New Jersey to Michigan. With her family, she enjoyed spending weekends down the Jersey Shore. Gay and Richard traveled extensively throughout the U.S.
All the while, Gay found time to volunteer, including the PTA and was a Girl Scout lifetime member. Richard and Gay retired to Sarasota, FL in 1994. She was active in the Serenoa Community Association and the Italian Society. They were fortunate to travel to Italy with their son in 1997.
In the next chapter of her life, Gay lived at Heron East Assisted Living since 2016. We are happy she was in our lives, and we are stronger for having known her. She was loved and will be missed.
Gay will be laid to rest with her beloved husband at the Sarasota National Cemetery on Wednesday, June 27 at 12:30 PM.
