Sanae and family,
Our heart goes out to you during this difficult time. Having known Gar for almost forty years, I grew to enjoy, respect and admire him. He was such a visionary for both Useppa and Palm Island. He was also a wonderful person, with great insight and empathy. He will be greatly missed.
Hugs to you all,
Carl and Jo

Sanae, Donald and Mika:
Judit and I both felt great sadness when we learned yesterday of Gar’s passing. He was a wonderful, passionate and great gentleman. We were very lucky to discover Useppa Island some 43 years ago and very fortunate to come to know Gar and your family. He not only loved the “island”, but also many of its members which all contributed so much to the happiness of our family over the years. I truly believe that Useppa had a “golden era” which Gar, Bob Zumwalt, Bill Hager, Snap Johnson, Harry Shaw, Leo Nawn and many others help to create.
We will remember Gar at the helm of his boat arriving on Useppa and also Gar and Sanae greeting members in the Collier dining room.
With much love and sincere condolences to all of you and knowing that Gar is now in a better place,
Fondly, George and Judit Mueller

Time slipped away and we missed so many opportunities to visit our friends, Gar and Senae, over the past two years. I am heartbroken to know that now it is too late. I love Gar and Senae like family and will always cherish our many special times together.
Life has been hard and has gotten in the way of letting this wonderful man know how much we’ve always loved him.
Rest In Peace Gar; there isn’t anyone in this world like you!

Dear Sanae, Donald, Mika, Heather and all the grandchildren, Tim and I send you our deepest sympathy. We remember Gar as remarkable man, whose passion for Useppa shaped the beautiful island so many enjoy today. We remember Gar's enthusiasm for archaeological discovery and the Useppa Island Historical Society; his delight in welcoming visitors to Useppa; his fierce competitive spirit at the game of croquet, which he and Bob Sumwalt introduced, and his delighted participation in all the Useppa festivals, particularly Thanksgiving and Christmas. Please accept our formal condolences and, especially, our love. Judith and Tim Sear
