Born on September 12, 1925, in Andover, SD, George's family moved to Missouri in 1933 where he helped on the family farm. He joined the Army in 1945 and served as an MP during the aftermath of WWII in Europe, primarily Germany. After being discharged, he used the GI bill to earn a BS in Economics from the University of Missouri. He moved to Omaha, NE where he started his career. He married in 1952 and began his family.
The family moved to Sarasota, FL in 1963 where he owned a successful business as an agricultural economist consulting to the livestock and meat packing industry. This life's work took him the world over during the next thirty years, testifying before Congress and counseling presidents.
He was very involved in his parish, community, and family life. He was instrumental in starting the fund-raising telethon for Cardinal Mooney High School. He was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus and a founding member of Council #13639. His time in retirement was spent working on his novel "Escape", researching his genealogy and playing bridge (like a champ), which provided many happy moments.
He is predeceased by his daughter, Donna Leonard, and six siblings. He leaves to carry on his legacy three daughters Mary (Don) Shields, Kathleen Ketterer, and Susan (Eric) Becker, three sons Joseph (Dale), David (Sandy), and Edward, fourteen grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, 7 great-great grandchildren, his brother Charles, Virginia Heal, many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
