George was born in Sandy Hook, Kentucky to John Bethel Ellington and Mary Ellen (Ison) Ellington on December 19, 1934. He graduated from Marietta High School in Ohio. He married Donna J. Roach on July 17, 1954, and they were married for almost 70 years. George worked at Ohio Bell for over 35 years and moved to Florida upon retirement.
George had a passion for golfing, fishing, and refurbishing old houses. He bought and sold dozens of properties in Manatee County.
George was preceded in death by his parents, John Bethel Ellington and Mary Ellen (Ison) Ellington, his wife Donna J. (Roach) Ellington, and his sister Ina Lovene Fairchild (Ohio).
George is survived by his son George M. Ellington, Jr. (Tennessee), daughters Diane Dolison (Florida) and Linda Ellington (Florida), brother John Ellington (Orlando), 3 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements will be held at 2:00 p.m. on October 9, 2025, at Robert Toale and Sons Memorial Park, Sarasota, Florida.
