H. Murray Blueglass (Murray) 85, was born in Bronx, NY on November 30, 1936. Murray passed away in Sarasota, FL on July 15, 2022 surrounded by his family. Murray is survived by his wife of over 62 years, Alice, his son, Michael, and his daughter, Wendy.
Murray took enormous pride in his family, including his 5 grandchildren. Family and family time was of utmost importance to him and he loved talking about his wife, children, and grandchildren.
Murray's life includes over 40 years of dedication to education, which started with him teaching 4th grade in the Bronx and culminated with him being a Superintendent of Schools, first in Tarrytown, NY and then Mahwah, NJ. Throughout his career, Murray was keenly focused on making the best decisions for children. His passionate and determined work led him to years of successful decisions, projects, and initiatives, all of which focused on doing what's "good for kids." Not only was Murray a lifetime public educator, so, too, was his wife (retired elementary principal), son (retired science teacher), and daughter (retired elementary principal). In addition, three of his five grandchildren are also teachers (two are elementary teachers, and one is a guitar teacher). Murray, Grandpa, or Napa as his family called him, was extremely proud of the "family business" of education.
In his retirement years, Murray proudly served as the President of Temple Beth Israel on Longboat Key, FL. Like being a Superintendent of Schools for over 35 years, taking on the role of the President of the Temple allowed Murray to connect with the congregation and lead with his customary passion.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Murray's honor can be made to the Rabbi's Discretionary Fund of Temple Beth Israel, 567 Bay Isles Road, Longboat Key, FL, 34228.
A funeral service for Murray will be at Robert Toale and Sons Funeral Home on Monday, July 18 @ 1:00 pm. The funeral service can be viewed virtually (Link forthcoming).
The family will be sitting shiva at their home, 1568 Landings Terrace, Sarasota, on Tuesday, July 19 from 2:00 - 5:30 pm with a short service at 6:00 pm.
