Gene was a graduate of Davison High School, General Motors Institute (GMI) and the University of Michigan. He was a member of the Michigan Society of Professional Engineers. Gene worked in the automotive industry for 30 years. He retired in 1998 and relocated to Florida.
Gene was an avid golfer, and throughout his years was a member of Davison Country Club, Flint Golf Club, Bonita Bay Club, and Lakewood Ranch Country Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry Elmer and Mary Marguerite (Margo) Wood.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Beth Wood; his children, Bryan (Megan) and Melissa (Steve) Merchant; his grandchildren, Tyler Merchant, Drew Merchant, and Elizabeth Wood; and his siblings, Bill Wood, Kate Wood-Kaiser, Gary Wood, Terry Wood, and Kevin Wood.
The family will be hosting a private Celebration of Life for friends and family.
