He was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is predeceased by his wife of 68 years, Laverna Marilyn (Page) Trufant and daughter Virginia (Ginger) Ellen Taylor of Melbourne FL. He is survived by his daughters Beverly Potsaid and husband Majic of Vineyard Haven,MA , Marilyn McCarthy and husband Michael of Westport CT, and Valerie Sanderson and Phil Stokes of Venice FL, 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Born on Dec. 27 1922 , son of Willard and Amy (Nash) Trufant, he graduated From Abington MA High School then attended Massachusetts State College in Amherst. A veteran of WW II, he served in the cadre and then as a medic in Japan during the time of occupation. He and his brother Philip owned and operated Trufant's farm in Abington, known for their fresh daily corn and apple cider. In 1954 he sold his half of the farm to Phil and founded Trufant Real Estate. He was a successful realtor for over 40 years winning awards such as Realtor of the Year (greater Brockton MA area 1972) along the way; the business continuing to this day.
Baseball, football, and soccer were sports he enjoyed as a young man; water-skiing,snow-skiing, boating and tennis as he got older. He patiently gave instruction to young and old in these activities. He was active in the communities where he lived, volunteering for many projects of the Rotary Club and serving as president. He was a member of the First Parish Congregational Church of Abington (later Church of Christ) and was a deacon and superintendent of Sunday School. During retirement years in Sarasota, family and friends were encouraged to visit and did. Tennis was his passion and he would play every chance he got, up until age 90 when he was awarded the gold medal in the Florida Senior Games State Championships 2012 Singles Age 90 - 94.
A memorial service will be held at Robert Toale and Sons Funeral Home, 170 Honore Ave. Sarasota FL on Wednesday May 29 at 2:00.
