J. Donald "Don" McGarry

J. Donald "Don" McGarry, 79, of Sarasota, formerly of Maryland, passed away on April 18, 2011.

Funeral Mass will be held Monday, April 25, 2011 at 1:00pm at Incarnation Catholic Church, with entombment following at Palms-Robarts Memorial Park. A celebration of his life will follow at Palms-Robarts Funeral Home.

Don is survived by his wife, Gayle; a son, Stephen McGarry of Raleigh, NC; two daughters, Denise McGarry of Chillicothe, OH and Bridget Sunderlin of Towson, MD; three step daughters, Darlene Ogden of Aurora, CO, Monica Clark of Tulsa, OK and Terri Grant of St. Petersburg, FL; seven grandchildren, Claire McGarry, Maeve McGarry, Joshua Sunderlin, Kerra Sunderlin, Nicolette Chapman, Anthony Clark and Stephen Clark; and a great granddaughter, Ailey Chapman.

Born in Baltimore, Maryland, Don served with the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He worked in construction and owned McGarry Construction, Inc. before retiring to Sarasota in 1990.

He enjoyed golf, and European and domestic travel.

Don was a Shriner and enjoyed singing and playing the Banjo with the Shrine Banjo Band and Gulf Coast Banjo Society.

He will be remembered for the fun and laughter he brought to those who knew and loved him.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Incarnation Catholic Church, Sarasota.
