James was a graduate of Winfield High School, where he was the captain of the football and baseball teams.
A man of great faith, James was always kind to everyone and always willing to help anyone. He was an Elder in his church. He was the ultimate handyman and could do just about anything. He loved the Tampa Bay Rays and had a life-long love of West Virginia football.
James was preceded in death by his wife, Sue.
He is survived by his children, Tammy Hanson (Corky), Melanie Fewell, Stephanie Swale (Tom) and Christine Norman (Andy); 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
A funeral service for James will be held Friday, May 23, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 3131 61st St, Sarasota, FL 34243. Following the funeral service will be a committal service at 2:30 PM at Palms Memorial Park, 170 Honore Ave, Sarasota, FL 34232.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in James memory may be made to Tidewell Hospice, Inc. or the Humane Society of the United States.
