James S. Summerlin, more fondly known as "Jim", went to Heaven on Thursday, August 12, 2021. He was born in Sylacauga, Alabama on March 25, 1948 to Virgie Kathleen Summerlin and James Elmer Summerlin.
Jim was a retired Firefighter Captain, EMT, and an Army Veteran that served honorably in the Vietnam War. After moving to Sarasota, he owned Classic Window Decorators in Venice, Florida, and then pursued his dream of owning a restaurant where he especially took pride in serving Jambalaya and Muffelettas to his loyal customers at the Mardi Gras Cafe in Sarasota. He loved baking and everyone loved his fantastic rum cakes. Jim was a good man--truly the best of the best. He was a devoted husband to his wife of thirty-five years, Lindy Summerlin.
He is survived by his wife, Lindy Summerlin, his mother Virgie Kathleen Summerlin of Pensacola, FL, and his sister, Cheryl Blue of Charlotte, N. Carolina.
Jim was a loyal friend and never failed to bring a smile to your face when you needed it the most. He will truly be missed by his family and many friends who were blessed enough to have known him.
A committal service with military honors for James will be held Friday, August 27, 2021 at 10:00 AM at the Sarasota National Cemetery, 9810 State Rd 72, Sarasota, FL 34241.
