He grew up in Newton, MA, the son of Myer Moskow and Bertha (Finklestein) Moskow, brother of Bencion (Bud) Moskow. He attended Buckingham Browne & Nichols and graduated from Boston University, a proud member of the ZBT fraternity. While serving in the US Army during the Korean War, Jay was stationed in Kaiserslautern, Germany. He worked as both an Army photographer and an engineer. Returning to Newton, Jay joined the family real estate business alongside his father and brother. A fraternity brother fixed him up on a blind date where Jay experienced love at first sight. Soon after he married Barbara (August) Moskow, his devoted wife of 64 years. The proudly raised three girls.
Ever active in his community, Jay served as Deputy Chief of Auxiliary Police, Head of the Crime Commission and Head of Civil Defense and the Traffic Commission for the City of Newton. He also began a gun buy-back program and implemented the first Neighborhood Watch program for the city. Jay was a past president of Michael Moses Hayes Lodge and Temple Beth Avodah.
Some hobbies included cruising on his Harley 1200 and talking on his Ham Radio, but it was by the ocean that Jay felt most at peace. He enjoyed boating around Cape Cod and the islands and entertaining family and friends at his summer home in East Falmouth, MA. Eventually, he and Barbara moved to a condo on the beach in Longboat Key FL with a sparkling view of the gulf. Active as ever, he was elected president of the Islander Club condo board. In time Barbara and Jay moved to Lakehouse West in Sarasota, where, in his 90’s, he discovered a passion for singing, becoming a devoted member of the Patriot Men’s Chorus. A generous soul, he contributed to a variety of causes. He had many lifelong friends, was a self-proclaimed “jokah”(joker in Boston-ese) and most enjoyed putting people at ease with his “humah” (humor). He was greatly loved and will be sorely missed.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara August Moskow, three daughters, Susan Moskow Parkhurst, Joanne (Jo)Moskow and Karen Moskow Correa, as well as grandchildren, Madeline, Charlotte and Jack Parkhurst; Miles and Lark Liegerot; and Mateo and Amelia Correa, nieces Patrice, Nancy and Cathy Moskow and their families and numerous cousins.
