

Jeanne Marie Bishop (nee Common), born on December 31, 1942, to Joseph Boyd Common and Ruth Ashel Common (nee Maddox) in Flint, Michigan, passed away after a long illness on July 29, 2026. She is survived by her two children, Schoen Joseph Bishop (Heather Zangara), and Phoebe Ruth Bishop (Stephen Barker), and sister, Lorrie Monahan (Michael Monahan) and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her husband, Earl James Bishop II, and her brother Joseph C. Common.
Through her long education career, Jeanne was a beloved teacher at both Sarasota High School and Venice High School, bringing alive Art History, English, Drawing, and Ceramics to many students through her great enthusiasm, amazing field trips, and creative programs. She was also a long-standing Academic Olympics coach for both schools. After retirement, Jeanne stayed active in the school community by bringing donated art supplies and materials to Oak Park school which earned her Senior Volunteer of the Year twice. She was also a talented artist in multiple mediums and sold her work locally.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to the Alzheimer’s Foundation. In honor of her memory, spend time at a museum and enjoy the Arts!
