Joan W. Spittal, age 82 of Sarasota, Florida passed away January 31, 2019. She was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut on August 3, 1936. Joan attended Simmons College in Boston, Massachusetts and went on to receive degrees from Fairfield and Sacred Heart University as well. In her early years, Joan worked as a school teacher, but later made a career as a Certified Geriatric Care Manager and Social Worker. She ran and owned a company called Caring Management. Joan loved word games, such as Scrabble and Words with Friends and was noted for correcting the grammar of others. Joan will be forever loved by her husband of 42 years, John Spittal; her son, Jamie Maiden; daughter, Illene Dyrda; step sons, John Spittal, David Spittal and Eric Spittal; and grandchildren, Mackenzie Dyrda, Julia Spittal, Johanna Spittal, Amelia Spittal, and Anders Spittal. She was preceded in death by her brother, Gerald Winter. A funeral service for Joan will take place on Monday, February 4, 2019 at 11 am at Robert Toale and Sons Funeral Home at Palms Memorial Park; 170 Honore Ave., Sarasota, FL 34232.
