

John Joseph Meyers, III resident of Sarasota, FL, died on Sunday, September 14, 2025 at age 87 years old. He was born on September 3, 1938 in Brooklyn, NY to John Joseph Meyers, II and Catherine Eschmann.
He is survived by his wife Nancy Meyers, children Sean Meyers and daughter-in-law Kristen Meyers, Tom Meyers and daughter-in-law Susan Meyers, and Karen Meyers and son-in-law Josh Godine. He is also survived by his brother Anthony Meyers and sister-in-law Nannette Meyers, and brother Vincent Meyers and sister-in-law Janice Meyers. John was preceded in death by his brother Larry Meyers and sister-in-law Eileen Meyers. He is grandfather to 4 grandchildren.
He had a wonderful, fulfilling life in the Navy then in financial services eventually leading him to an enriching retired life in Sarasota, FL.
After graduating from Chaminade High School in 1956, he attended Holy Cross College in Worcester, MA and graduated in 1960 with a degree in English. Upon graduation, he was commissioned into the Navy.
He attended Naval Flight Training in Pensacola, FL before reporting to the VS-34 squadron aboard the USS Essex from May 1962 until May 1965. He served as an instructor pilot at NAS Meridian, MS. After 8 years of service, he joined Pan Am in NYC. Following a short career with Pan Am, he joined the family business John J Meyers & Co. for a few years in NYC then worked for Thomson McKinnon & NY Life before moving the family to St. Petersburg, FL to work at Templeton Funds in 1989. He finished his career as a Financial Advisor at Merrill Lynch in Sarasota. Upon retiring, he happily pursued the life of golf, tennis, yoga and the company of good friends.
John was known for his fine, reliable character and many appreciated his good humor and uplifting nature. He was a gifted storyteller, writer and dabbled in poetry and memoir writing. He was a contributing writer of The Piper Staff Publication at the Glenridge and delighted all who encountered him. He could often be found on the Legacy Bike Trails of Sarasota or sharing a song or story with staff at the Green Hall in the Carroll Center. Known by all as wise, joyful, caring to everyone, he will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
A funeral service will be held at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Sarasota, FL on Thursday, October 9th at 10:00am followed by a reception held at the Spirit Center on the church’s premises.
