John Barry Rhoades, age 81, passed away on Tuesday, February 27, 2024 in Sarasota, Florida. He was born November 16, 1942 at Sarasota Memorial Hospital. Sarasota and its people were his home, education, support and livelihood.
John graduated from Sarasota High School in 1960, and was later led in interest to become certified by the Pest Control Commission of Florida to practice general household pest and rodent control in 1968. Through Rhoades Pest Control, incorporated in 1971, John serviced and connected with households across Sarasota and Bradenton. He continued to provide pest control until he retired in his 70s and entrusted the company to his son, Chad.
One of John's dear hobbies was playing the guitar; which was further cemented into his life from playing alongside different friends, including his twin brother Richard. They performed at several venues throughout the late 1960s as a band with one of their aliases known as "The N'Motions." He continued to play the guitar and enjoyed other activities such as boating, fishing, and golfing throughout his life. John was a member of the Sarasota Outboard Club for boating; as well as the Fraternal Order of Eagles since 2008.
John was preceded in death by his parents Wilbur and Helen Rhoades. He is survived by his wife of 59 years Jean Rhoades; his son Chad Rhoades and daughter in law Theresa Rhoades; his grandchildren, Steven Rhoades, Taylor Rhoades, and Lex Rhoades, and his twin brother Richard Rhoades. John will be remembered by family, friends, and countless people across Sarasota.
Funeral service will be held Thursday, March 7, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Robert Toale & Sons Funeral Home, 170 Honore Ave. Sarasota, where the family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to service time.
Burial will follow in Palms Memorial Park with a reception after in the funeral home.
