Leo J. Laier, Jr. passed away Thursday at age 90. Graduate from Central Catholic H.S., Ft. Wayne, IN. Leo served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star as a combat wounded veteran from the Invasion of Normandy.
Leo earned a Bachelor degree in Music from Butler University and taught music in public school before moving to Sarasota in 1961, and purchased a music store. With his trombone he performed with many Bay Area symphonies
Hired to lead a community band for a city mobile home park they provided community concerts in the area. Loving Jazz music, in 1985 he organized the Jazz Ambassadors Stage Band presenting open concerts to the public. After 46 years Leo retired from conducting the Suncoast Concert Band but remained involved as a musician and in other roles.
Leo leaves behind his beloved wife, of 66 years Beverly . Leo’s life will be celebrated in a memorial service 1:30 PM, Friday May 13 at First Congregational United Church of Christ, 1031 S. Euclid Ave. Sarasota FL 34237.
