Few days pass without my thinking of Linda. Without her, Sarasota and Eckerd College have lost some vibrancy. I'm fortunate to have known her, and I sure wish I could simply pick up the phone and call her like I used to.

Linda was welcoming and supportive. My decision to enroll at Eckerd was largely based upon my interactions with her where she listened intently to my concerns and created solutions that allowed me to enroll move forward with my education. She will be missed by many. My thoughts and prayers to her family.

As a fond mother, when the day is o'er,
Leads by the hand her little child to bed,
Half willing, half reluctant to be led,
And leave his broken playthings on the floor,
Still gazing at them through the open door,
Nor wholly reassured and comforted
By promises of others in their stead,
Which, though more splendid, may not please him more;
So Nature deals with us, and takes away
Our playthings one by one, and by the hand
Leads us to rest so gently, that we go
Scarce knowing if we wish to go or stay,
Being too full of sleep to understand
How far the unknown transcends the what we know.

Linda…Oh how you had a positive impact on so many of our lives!

Never planning on obtaining more than a few (4) A.S. degrees in order to acquire a better job, I remember one Wednesday I contacted Linda and setup an appointment regarding the possibility of continuing on through the PEL program to obtain a BA degree. The next day I took in a spreadsheet to Linda and asked if I was correct, in that, "I only needed 3 courses to graduate with a Bachelor Degree from Eckerd College?"

She looked at the full-color spreadsheet and commented, “Why do you need me? I've never had anyone come in so prepared! Well, yes, she said as she laughed with a big smile, since you've been COLLECTING A.S. DEGREES, you only need 3 courses, but actually, to graduate from Eckerd you HAVE to take 9 courses as you have to be here one-full year!” I'll never forget the look on her face as her eyes lit up brightly when she saw that spreadsheet and the smile on her face has remained with me since I entered Eckerd College in August 2003! Linda had so much patience! She sat with me that afternoon and helped me go through ALL 59 courses I had taken to determine which NINE courses I would need to complete for my BA Degree.

Being over the age of 45 at that time, Linda new what it really meant to me to obtain a BA degree. She laughed as she stated, “You need to go on to get your Bachelors and not just keep collecting the A.S. degrees!” I only wish I was able to let her know how instrumental she was in me continuing my education, by completing my MS in 2005, and now finishing my dissertation for my Ph.D.

Linda, I am sure the Angels in Heaven will watch over you as much as you watched over so very many of us throughout your life. God Speed Linda, you will be so very sorely missed on this earth…

Fly with the Angels. You will surely continue to watch over us all from Heaven, as that has been in your heart forever...

Linda was a delightful lady with a gracious and kind demeanor. Her PEL students loved her and appreciated her support as did we the instructors. We always knew she "had our backs" in the case of a student-instructor issue. Even though she was ill, she gave no indication of her situation and gallantly moved forward in her position as PEL Director for the Sarasota campus. God bless you Linda.

Linda was a very a sincere and caring person. She cared about the students in the PEL program at Eckerd College. She went the extra mile in her profession while helping many who felt like giving up continue on their educational journey and graduate. Her memories will live on.......
