Margaret “Margy” Coonradt DeScenza, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, of Sarasota, Florida passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 26, 2022, at the age of 64. She was born on October 28, 1957, in Troy, New York, one of seven siblings to Robert and Mary (Duffy) Coonradt.
Margy graduated from Averill Park High School in 1975 and Mount Saint Mary’s College in Emmitsburg, Maryland where she earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1979. After graduating, Margy traveled to Chicago where she met the love of her life, Robert. They married on April 25, 1981, in Clifton Park, New York. The couple settled in New Jersey, where they welcomed three beautiful daughters, Katherine Theresa, Mary Elizabeth, and Patricia Rose. They later relocated to Naperville, Illinois and New York City before retiring to Sarasota.
Margy’s deepest passion in life was her family. She poured her entire heart and soul into raising her girls and supporting her husband. Her unconditional love was essential to each of their successes. Margy had a true eye for beauty which was evident in her spectacular photography. This hobby was elevated through her many adventures and travels around the world. Margy’s greatest joy came with the arrivals of her nine, precious grandchildren who affectionately called her “Nanny”.
In addition to her late parents, Margy is preceded in death by her brother Fredrick and her sister-in-law Nancy DeScenza. She is survived by her devoted husband Robert and her children, Katherine Duty and her husband William of Sarasota, Mary Mohler and her husband Charles of Hampstead, North Carolina, and Patricia Cullen and her husband Eric of Sarasota. In her passing, she also leaves behind her nine beloved grandchildren, Nella, Alexandra, Margaret, William, Emily, Rory, Joseph, Finley, and John, as well as her dear siblings, Stephen, Daniel, Theresa, Robert, and Frances.
For the past few years, Margy courageously battled cancer without complaint and no matter how sick, she was always determined to fight. Through her, we know what resilience and perseverance truly look like. Even at the very end, she never let up the fight.
