

Mary was born in Kalamazoo, MI on October 24, 1926 to Florence (nee Quinn) and Leo M. White. She was raised in Bronson, MI and received her BA from Marygrove College in 1949. Following graduation Mary taught Second Grade at Highland Park School in Detroit, MI.
In 1951 Mary Virginia wed Lieutenant JG Alfred James Morency. Mary and Jim were married for 59 years and had 5 children. Mary was a homemaker while her husband was employed as a research physicist by M.I.T. Lincoln Laboratories.
Mary was a beautiful spirit who loved her family and friends. She was an active member of her church and enjoyed teaching, gardening, traveling, and attending the theater and opera. Mary was a long time member of the Concord Woman's Club and Lincoln Garden Club.
In 1988 Jim and Mary Morency began retirement with a three-year voyage throughout Europe aboard their 50' Cutter, The Lady Mary. They sailed from Norfolk, Virginia, stopping first at Bermuda, and made their trans-Atlantic crossing to Ireland. They made their return Atlantic crossing in 1991 and settled in Sarasota, FL.
Mary is survived by her daughters, Mary M. Van Houten of Brookfield, IL. and Barbara Ann Morency of Sarasota; her son, Alfred S. Morency of Sarasota; her grandson, Christian H. Van Houten of Kalamazoo, MI, her brother Jack White and his wife Jerri of Danville, IL; and other wonderful nephews and a niece. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Jim, her daughter, Suzanne, son, Alfred George, her brother Bill White and sister, Evelyn Ann White.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 6, 2014 at 9:30 am at St. Thomas More Church located at 2506 Gulf Gate Drive in Sarasota, FL. A reception will follow in the Covent Garden Room. A graveside service will be held on Monday, December 8, 2014 at 9:30 am at the Sarasota National Cemetery located at 9810 State Road 72, Sarasota, FL.
