Michael V. Dailey of Sarasota, FL, formally of South Boston, MA passed away on February 23, 2018 after a lengthy illness. Beloved husband of Pamela Savoy-Dailey. Loving father of Maryanne “Coco” Dailey of Onset, MA, John F. “Jack” Dailey and his girlfriend Michelle Amstead of Southfield, MA, Katherine A. “Katie” McCaffrey and her husband Michael, of Hull, MA, Nancy E. O’Malley and her husband Mickey of Pembroke, MA, Michael R. and Brandon C. Dailey of Sarasota, FL Cherished Papa to Jillian, Shana, Jake and Joe Zinkus, Grace, Nora, Maggie and Molly O’Malley, Jack and Jay T. Seward-Dailey and Gianni V. Dailey. Michael is the son of the late Francis D. and Marian P. (Cunningham) and brother of Paul, Daniel "Leo", Mary Ellen Golden, Kevin, John and the late Francis and Gerald Dailey. Also survived by many nieces and nephews who remember him as “Uncle Mucka”.
Michael was a retired Chief Court Officer at South Boston District Court, a former Lieutenant in the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department and worked many years for Perini Corporation as a tugboat Captain.
He was an outstanding athlete having played for the South Boston Chippewa’s Football Club and was also a member of the Boston Police Runner’s Club. He ran four Boston Marathons as well as other charitable road races. Sadly, he had to give up running after suffering a career-ending back injury.
Michael loved the ocean, especially the old days on 13th Road in Marshfield. He also enjoyed observing the surrounding wildlife. He loved Caribbean cruises, a good horse race and traveling to Maine. His greatest love in life was spending time with his family. He showed us that a big, strong and sometimes stubborn Boston Irishman could also be a big fun loving teddy bear.
He dealt with many health issues over the past year. Although his body was broken, his spirit remained strong and never wavered. He was so appreciative and kind to all of his hospital staff and always made a point to say thank you…even during his toughest days.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 AM on Sat. Mar. 10, 2018 at Gate of Heaven Catholic Church, 615 East 4th St., South Boston, MA 02127. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
