On July 30, 2021, Michael David DelPizzo, "Mikey", 34, passed away peacefully, with his devoted dad, Paul DelPizzo, and beloved uncle, Jeff DelPizzo, at his side. Michael joins his mom, Beth Abel DelPizzo, and his grandmother, Marion DelPizzo, both of whom passed relatively recently.
Like his mother and maternal grandmother, Marcia Abel, Michael died from complications of myotonic muscular dystrophy, MMD. Also like his mother and grandmother, he was a trooper; he had a happy, totally agreeable disposition. MMD is no picnic, and Michael spent more than his share of time on the pulmonary floor of the hospital where he was an adored celebrity.
He was tough---he wasn't expected to make it out of infancy, then childhood, etc. Walking didn't seem to be in the cards until it was. (Thanks Shriners.)
Michael loved movies, going to Mote Marine, and hanging at the mall. He was into wind up toys, the Kikkerland kind that generated sparks and maintained less than predictable behavior. He liked kids books about space and peanut butter sandwiches. Mainly he loved being with his people: He loved the folks at the Oak Park School, his nurses Darlene and Jerry, and especially his mom and dad and Uncle Jeff and Grandma Marion.
He is survived by his dad, Paul DelPizzo; his uncle, Jeff DelPizzo, and his son, Anthony; his aunt Nancy and her daughter, Eletha; his uncle Alan Dorrill (Saralyn) and their son, Samuel; his uncle Jonathan (Jessica), and their children Lillian, Emerson and Rose. A celebration of life will soon be shared privately with his family.
