August 20, 1964 – August 22, 2025
Michael J. Doyle, age 61, died on August 22, 2025, after a five-year battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born in Warwick, Rhode Island, to Richard C. Doyle and Carol (Schindler) Doyle of Buffalo, New York. His family relocated to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where he grew up, attended Penn State University, and became a lifelong fan of the Pittsburgh Penguins, Steelers, and Pirates. In 1987, Mike moved to Maine where he met the love of his life Colleen Redmond, who he married in 1995 in Negril, Jamaica.
Mike and Colleen shared a love of running and traveled extensively completing countless road races including the grueling Mount Washington road race and seventeen marathons in Ireland, Hawaii, Vermont, Massachusetts (Boston), Connecticut, two in Jamaica, two in Washington DC, two in New Hampshire, and six in Maine. Mike continued running after his pancreatic cancer diagnosis and treatments, completing a 10K in Venice, Florida in 2023 (finishing fourth in his division.) Mike was also a respected member of Sarasota’s senior softball community and was known as a skilled player and teammate, continuing to play through early 2025. Colleen and Mike were active members of Maine’s running community and served as co-editors of the Maine Track Club’s newsletter, winning national awards through the Road Runners Club of America (RRCA) and Mike was nationally recognized by RRCA for Outstanding Club Writer for articles he authored for the newsletter.
Mike was also known for his love of animals. Dogs Maggie, Lilly, and Sid, and cats Cosmo and Oreo were loved like family. Mike was known for being a go-to person for anyone who needed help – he was known for getting up before work to snow blow driveways for elderly neighbors, mow lawns and moving expeditions for countless friends and family, which he always did with humor and strength.
Mike is survived by his wife of over 30 years, Colleen Redmond, of Portland, Maine and Sarasota, Florida; mother Carol Doyle and sister Diane Doyle of Saco, Maine; sister Lynda Mallow of Washington, DC and brother Richard Doyle of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and several nieces and nephews to which he is beloved Uncle Mike. He was pre-deceased by his father, Richard C. Doyle.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, September 21, 2025 at 1:00 pm at the Sarasota Garden Club, 1131 Boulevard Of The Arts, Sarasota, Florida.
