He was a member of Faith Baptist Church with more than 30 years of service in the bus ministry and assisting in, and eventually leading the children's services. Michael was born in Decatur, IL to Betty Lou and William Lukens. He moved to Sarasota in the 60's. Michael married Joanne McDaniel on April 1, 1978.
Survivors include his loving wife Joanne Lukens, a daughter Sue Warren of Travelers Rest, SC; step-daughter Theresa Hewett of Sarasota; step-son, David McDaniel of Rutherfordton, NC; and step-daughter
Cynthia McCoy of Cincinnati, OH; 10 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his son Michael "Mikey" H. Lukens Jr. in 1975.
A memorial service will be held at Faith Baptist Church, 8751 Fruitville Rd., Sarasota, FL 34240, on Sunday March 28, 2021 at 11:00 AM, with Pastor Dave Anderson officiating.
A memorial fund for the widow has been established.
